Welcome to the Human Nature Research Lab

History

The Human Nature Research Laboratory was established in 1983 at the University of Arizona Department of Psychology by Joanne Vining, Ph.D. In 1985, the lab moved to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences, where Dr. Vining is Professor of Environmental Psychology.

Mission Statement

The primary purpose of the lab is to examine ways in which people perceive and construct environmental quality. We approach a variety of environmental issues from the framework of psychology, applying psychological theories and methods to the study of human-nature interactions. Our results promote an informed and empirical basis for environmental problem solving.
